Thursday, April 9, 2026

COLUMBIA, SC – Cody Simpson - a fifth-generation South Carolina farmer, former USDA Farm Service Agency State Executive Director, and President Donald J. Trump-endorsed candidate for Commissioner of Agriculture - shattered state fundraising records for the statewide office, according to the campaign disclosure report filed today with the South Carolina Ethics Commision.

Simpson, who entered the commissioner race on February 19th following the public encouragement of President Trump and Governor Henry McMaster, reported contributions of $440,975. This amount - received in just a 49-day period - exceeds not only the quarterly fundraising record but also the entire election cycle record.

The previous high marks for the Commissioner of Agriculture race were set by current Commissioner Hugh Weathers, who raised $135,750 in the 4th Quarter of 2021 and $317,050 in the 2022 Republican Primary.

“The Commissioner of Agriculture affects everyone’s life in the State of South Carolina,” said Simpson. “From our grocery store to our schools to our gas pumps, the office is critical to South Carolinians, and I am most grateful for the historic support to serve as the next commissioner. When President Trump said, ‘RUN, CODY, RUN’ – I took that to heart. I am just getting started and will have the resources necessary to win for our farms, our families, and our future.”
